چکیده

The representative-agent Lucas model stresses aggregate risk and hence does not allow us to study the impact of agents’ heterogeneity on the dynamics of equilibrium trading volume. In this paper, we investigate under what conditions non-informational heterogeneity, i.e., differences in preferences and endowments, leads to nontrivial trading volume in equilibrium. We present a non-informational no-trade theorem that provides necessary and sufficient conditions for zero equilibrium trading volume in a continuous-time Lucas market model with heterogeneous agents, multiple goods, and multiple securities. We explain in detail how no-trade equilibria are related to autarky equilibria, portfolio autarky equilibria, and peculiar financial market equilibria, which play an important role in the literature on international risk sharing. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Complex dynamics in equilibrium asset pricing models with boundedly rational, heterogeneous agents

We study a simple model based upon the Lucas framework where heterogeneous agents behave rationally in a fully intertemporal setting but do not know other investors’ personal preferences, wealth or investment portfolios. As a consequence, agents initially do not know the equilibrium asset pricing function and must make guesses which they update via adaptive learning with constant gain. We demon...

Asset Trading Volume with Dynamically Complete Markets and Heterogeneous Agents

Trading volume of infinitely lived securities, such as equity, is generically zero in Lucas asset-pricing models with heterogeneous agents. More generally, the end-of-period portfolio of all securities is constant over time and states in the generic economy. General equilibrium restrictions rule out trading of equity after an initial period. This result contrasts the prediction of portfolio all...

their preferences on those product dimensions. Since a single commodity market is made up of many heterogeneous goods that are close to each other but different in grade, quality and delivery conditions, preference satisfaction plays an important role in improving trade matches. In cotton markets, for instance, a cotton merchant may want to specify his preferences like " I prefer early delivery...

Asset prices in general equilibrium with recursive utility and illiquidity induced by transactions costs

In this paper, we study the effect of proportional transaction costs on consumptionportfolio decisions and asset prices in a dynamic general equilibrium economy with a financial market that has a single-period bond and two risky stocks, one of which incurs the transaction cost. Our model has multiple investors with stochastic labor income, heterogeneous beliefs, and heterogeneous Epstein-Zin-We...

Trading Volume in General Equilibrium with Complete Markets

This paper investigates asset trade in a general-equilibrium complete-markets endowment economy with heterogeneous agents. It shows that standard no-trade results cease to hold when agents have heterogeneous beliefs and that substantial trade volume is generated, even in the presence of a spanning set of assets. Further, trade volume and price movements have a positive relationship in the model...
